LA Galaxy were recently playing against Seattle Sounders in an important clash that would determine the third placed in the league table for the time being. Seattle Sounders were the favourites going into the match because they were playing at home, but the match finished as 1-1 draw. This secured a point for both teams, which undoubtedly left LA Galaxy much happier of the two. Former Tottenham striker Clint Dempsey had given Seattle Sounders the lead in the match after just 30 minutes on the clock. It appeared that LA Galaxy were heading for defeat, which would have handed Seattle Sounders a major advantage in the table.
Robbie Keane had other plans, as he came up with the equaliser with 12 minutes left in the match. After the encounter, Galaxy manager Bruce Arena was in full praise of Keane, who has become one of my important members of the squad due to the decline of Landon Donovan in recent years. The conference semifinals will now see LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake taking on each other. Arena said that goals of this quality are extremely hard to come by at later in the match, but Keane is one of the players capable of producing the same.
He also reserved praise for LA Galaxy star Donovan. “[Keane] had a solid game and when he gets that goal, you have to say he had a very good game. Goals are rare in this sport and Robbie seems to get them at the right time. Overall, I thought the last 10 or 15 minutes of the game, he was very influential for us in terms of leadership. He and Landon [Donovan] really stepped up and got the players organized and confident so we could walk off the field with a point,” said Donovan.
