MLS football club Portland Timbers have moved swiftly to terminate the contract of one of their players. Peruvian winger Andy Polo is the player in question and he was sacked by the club on the back of domestic violence allegations against him this week. MLS football outfit Portland Timbers released a statement on their website on Thursday to confirm the contract termination of the winger who joined the MLS football club in 2018.
Portland Timbers revealed that they were in the know concerning the dispute between Polo and his partner on May 23, 2021. The said dispute resulted in the player being cited for harassment by the Office of the Washington Sheriff County. The citation was not pursued by either the Prosecutor’s Office or the victim.
MLS football team Houston Dynamo said they regret not suspending the Peruvian winger immediately after the domestic abuse incident last year especially in light of the troubling new details of the domestic abuse incident which surfaced earlier this week. The statement from Houston Dynamo thereafter said that they have failed over the decision not to suspend the Peru international on the back of the domestic abuse incident last year and that there would never be a repeat of such failure.
Polo, 27, is a winger who has scored one goal in 37 games for Peru since his debut in 2016. The sacked Houston Dynamo player is an attacking talent who’s versatile as he can also play as a striker. He played for several Peru youth teams before graduating to the senior team.
