NAGBE HAILS CELTIC DESPITE BARCELONA DEFEAT

Darlington Nagbe, was formerly with the Cleveland Internationals but moved in 2011 to MLS Football outfit, Portland Timbers.

The son of Joe, former Liberian Captain, has been linked with a move to Champions League club, Celtic after Brendan Rodgers, Celtic’s boss showed interest in the player.

Brendan Rodgers, who joined the Hoops in the summer, looks forward to strengthening his midfield in preparations for the second half of the season. As part of his plans to lure the Portland Timbers midfielder to the club, Rodgers had him invited to Celtic’s Champions League game against Barcelona.

The game which saw Barcelona defeat the European outfit 2 goals to nil did not deter the player as he was wowed by the Celtic Park atmosphere and the kind of support fans of the club were dishing out.

The player tweeted a video of the atmosphere at the stadium and captioned it “wow”. The midfielder has had a total of 10 caps for the United States since making his debut back in 2011.

Portland Timbers in a fresh move has however warned Celtic that Nagbe was not for sale, despite reports coming in from several quarters earlier this week that the player would be available for a price of about £1.5million.

Nagbe is contracted to the MLS football outfit until 2019 and Portland chiefs have said that the price is quite small, considering their valuation of the player. However, if the midfielder demands a move to Celtic, a fee of about £2m should be more than palatable for the club.

A club official when speaking to American Newspaper The Oregonian said that they expect him to be with them until 2017, while another claimed that the player was “just visiting” Celtic.

The midfielder has scored 24 goals for the MLS outfit and has a total of 25 assists to his name.

Andrea Pirlo is enjoying life at the MLS

Andrea Pirlo is 37 years old and he is still performing at a high level as he is a regular starter in the MLS club New York City FC.

Despite being at such an elevated age, the Italian midfielder continues proving his worth as he is one of the most influential figures in the club.

Throughout the majority of the extensive playing career of Andrea Pirlo, he has spent over 19 years performing in Italy with a number of different clubs including: Brescia, Internazionale, Reggina, Ac.Milan and Juventus.

After having spent so much time playing with Italian clubs, Pirlo was offered with the chance of performing in a completely different as he joined the MLS and even though it might come out as a daunting task for any player to join a distinct atmosphere, it has turned out to be a successful move and the veteran midfielder has expressed how things have been going for him ever since he joined the American league back in August of 2015.

“It was a new league for me, but above all I wanted to come to America. It represents a new and different experience for me in a country that fascinated me. I also got the opportunity to study a new language.

The MLS became the first league to use video reviews

Using technology in football has always been a controversial topic as there are many fans out there which believe that if this is done, it will take out the magic and beauty from the sport and that it could become a sport with constant stopping in order to check out what the video footage shows in case of a foul committed by a player or of a goal which might not be sure if the ball went completely inside the net.

During the 2010 World Cup, there was an incident that occurred involving Frank Lampard where he actually scored a goal as the ball went past the goal-line but neither the linesman nor the referee saw it and the goal did not count.

This incident has pressured the former FIFA president SeppBlatter on having to make a decision regarding the implementation of video technology in big tournaments but Blatter was never really a supporter of using this kind of mechanics and it was never truly enforced.

SeppBlatter resigned after it was discovered that he along with other figures had been involved in bribery and now the new FIFA president Gianni Infantino appears to be more in favor of using this technology. Continue reading “The MLS became the first league to use video reviews”
